My February 22 essay about East Palestine, Ohio, focused on the derailment cause. I also collaborated with Robert Yoho, and he simultaneously posted it in his Substack “Surviving Healthcare.” The word “dioxin” appeared once, generating an understandable comment storm in Robert’s Substack. The railroad aspect of this story has generated a lot of interest in that industry. That has tweaked my interest, and I plan on an essay that will take a “deep dive” into railroad operations and engineering and how technology is evolving to prevent derailments and other accidents.
Fred, it's not just Railways, or the transportation industry, Bridges are a big part of our traveling, they colapse too. Toll roads where you are clocked for speeding if you get there to soon. Leveies I saw first hand what the 2010 levy failure brought to a town of 17,000, that was home of a US NAVAL BASE---BUPERS in Millington, TN. Why does the Navy need an Inland Navy Base, it keeps the Records. But there was more to that story as they say, it was a training base at one time, left over from WW2, slated for closure. So our government made it a records keeping base with more high ranking officers. As a training base it added to the economy of a small town, Brass had the housing, lower ranks rented off base, and as single sailors went out on leave. High Ranks tend to live in the affluent towns in Shelby Co and send their kids to private schools.
