I was in 7th grade in Catholic School when the Flyers won the Cup and Kate was on the front page of the Daily News the next day. I lived in Southwest Philly and remember all of it. We used to go to my Dad’s friend’s house to watch the home playoff games on PRISM. I went to the parade also. I can still name all the Flyers from that team by number. From #1 Bernie Parent 2 Ed Van Impe, to 30 Bobby Taylor. What great memories of my Italian family and Flyers hockey and the good old Spectrum.
That was enjoyable and informative. Thank you Frederick. Question. What could have gone wrong in this recent trailer and train crash in Texas? It seemed there was no signal or gate. It also seemed the train was going awfully fast. In the towns of Tonasket and Oroville here, not only are there gates and lights at crossings in both cities, the train crawls through the town, blowing the whistle repeatedly before it gets to the crossing.
"For 2023, the FRA reported 2,192 grade-crossing collisions, resulting in 245 fatalities and 763 injuries."
Pretty bad, but not surprising. I live in Martinsburg, WV with lots of railroad crossings. I've seen drivers speed up and race through the crossing as the rail descends.
Like drivers who proceed into high flood waters, it always amazes me.

Same age and same education. Your comment sows up under my essay on crossing safety ??

Good questions, Dave. I will answer them in my next essay. Stay tuned.

Great post... I do remember the Wig-Wag signals of the 1950s!
