Frederick, I like reading your stuff because of the vast variety of topics you cover. Was a fan of trains from time I was little because a Penn Central yard was down over the hill from our neighborhood. I remember seeing the Freedom Train at the station in Pittsburgh. Was fascinating seeing the steam engine and all the exhibits through the 26? cars.

Like the way you linked the train wreck where fortunately no one was hurt to the big American train wreck happening with no where near enough opposition to stop it.

Thank goodness there wasn't more damage of loss of life. This story brings back some tough memories for me.

"The Graniteville train crash was an American rail disaster that occurred on January 6, 2005, in Graniteville, South Carolina. At roughly 2:40 am EST, two Norfolk Southern trains collided near the Avondale Mills plant in Graniteville. Nine people were killed and over 250 people were treated for toxic chlorine exposure. The accident was determined to be caused by a misaligned railroad switch." -Wiki

I traveled over to Aiken, SC, fairly regularly back then as I was a pharmacist licensed in Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida. CVS had multiple stores surrounding that entire area, and I did plenty of time at all of them. And admittedly, I enjoyed my time at the South Carolina stores, ranging from I-20 to Lexington, mostly east of the interstate, everything south of I-26, and west of I-95, Hampton, Barnwell, Fairfax, Allendale, and Olar, Yemassee among others.

Although I only knew one person killed in that disaster, a local resident, others were badly injured, some permanently disabled quite seriously.

In railroad operations, reality is king. No room for "woke."

Thought - will the common-ist green monsters force the end tourist steam locomotes? I can hear it now, install batteries to boil water! Maybe we can build power lines to China to purchase their coal generated power.

What beautiful steam locomotives! I'd love to be able to come and take a ride. Trains are so soothing to ride on. --- I'm sorry to hear of the accident, but glad the locomotive wasn't destroyed.
