That was a great book and movie. I love the subtle symbolism Kubrick places throughout his films. I always have to rewatch to catch the extra detail, especially The Shining and Eyes Wide Shut.

I also suspect that 'A Clockwork Orange' was used by Kubrick to illustrate how the media can manipulate us; that we find ourselves laughing at horrible scenes of violence because the scene is set to the overture in 'The Thieving Magpie', or because Alex does a little song and dance to 'Singing In The Rain' while cutting off the clothes of his victim, or because he chases another victim... a cat lady, no less... around the room with a sculpture of male genitalia. And all the while, we find ourselves rooting for Alex.

For a bit of not so subliminal seduction, be sure to check out the album cover in this scene...

You nailed what is and has been happening for a long time. I just read what you wrote as the movies are a 'Trigger' for me to a bout of Depression, as I'm the mother of a murdered child, by a Sociopath. Jeremy was 16 by the calander, but 12 by his physical and mental delayed growth. Still playing with Hot Wheels, no peach fuss or voice crack yet. Grew up in a small town of 5,800, he was not use to the violence that happened in bigger ones. Until we moved into a town in Shelby Co. home of Memphis, to a town of 17,000. His world changed, he didn't. You'd think 33 years would make it easier, but the world has gone crazy.
