It seems to me that the cornerstone of our peculiar culture was an idea articulated as the Frontier Thesis. The second cornerstone seldom seriously articulated is Underclass white male power. LBJ was the last moment of white male power. Absent a real Frontier for the average soul and absent social superiority a talented tenth arose to outcompete the ordinary white majority. Elites found it expedient to encourage dumbing down and social promotion to the extent we are a wreckage today pitting all against all. Then as shown in the 19th Century, the death of Christianity created a vaccum to be filled by Marxist groups from the 1920's onwards. In a certain sense therefore we reap as we sow. As Langston Hughes said "America has never been America to me. "
