True Amish people are caught between two worlds. There are a few interesting videos on that subject on YouTube. One poor man and his wife had a daughter about ten years old diagnosed with some form of terminal cancer and how the family was struggling to get her to medical care in the big city and the big medical center and how they had several children and his wife just became pregnant again and they really were poor and helpless in that world.
Another man was trying to earn an income as a leather worker making leather goods out of his home and selling to other retail outlets and needed to use the telephone and his Amish neighbors were beginning to ostracize him because they wanted him to stop using the telephone, which was essential to his income and family support.
I saw a movie on these same kind of themes that I always thought was one of the best movies I had ever seen.
