Great piece of history. Amazing to see in person. Also worth exploring is the history of the Portage Railway, predecessor to the PRR Horseshoe Curve. Pennsylvania was and is the Keystone State and development of the new nation required getting across the Allegheny Mountains.

40 year career with Southern Ry and Norfolk Southern so of particular interest, also a PA native from a town along the long abandonded Rathole Division.

Great article that highlights the railroad's impressive engineering and construction projects. The amount of work you put into this article is also most impressive. Well done!

Fascinating, educational, and poetic: You won the Substack trifecta, Frederick.

I never got to see Horseshoe Curve. Great story, photos and videos. We were once capable of great things. Heard the other day, for the FIRST TIME since 1972, America landed a craft on the moon. Why? And, it malfunctioned, so it actually landed on its side! This is the second attempt. The last one was from a company in Pittsburgh. It malfunctioned and they blew it up! Other countries are coming and going flawlessly to the moon for years now!

Another well-written piece of history. Reminds me of the Hoover Dam Project.

Glory Train, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTbr-dfwanU.

The original was too slow, Dennis played mostly in the black keys, he used a KORG keyboard, and added in all the instruments. I hope you enjoy it.

Amazing story - thanks. These accomplishments will be harder and harder to duplicate with DEI - sadly.

Another great story of teams of unremarkable and mostly forgotten workers who accomplished great things and left a monument for all to see.

An excellent discussion, looking forward to watching the movie!

Thank you! The German sabotage was also fascinating.

Once again, thank you for a most excellent article.

What a great nod to history and American know-how! The most interesting part for me was the Germans who tried to sabotage it...
