Migrants from various parts of the world are crossing the U.S. southern border illegally. The group experiencing the most rapid increase is from China. In 2023, border patrol detained 37,000 Chinese nationals attempting illegal entry. This represents a staggering fifty-fold rise from 2021. As the border crisis escalates, authorities are increasingly limiting journalist access. Texas is actively combating the incessant influx of migrants. They are doing so by implementing Operation Lone Star. This involves funding the installation of anti-climb fences and razor wire. The areas were previously accessible. Twenty-five other governors are supporting Texas' measures to address the border influx. Additionally, Texas has enacted a new law. It is effective March 5, 2024. The law criminalizes illegal border crossings at the state level. This law grants local law enforcement the power to make arrests, with judges able to order the return of illegal crossers to Mexico.
